Headlight Glare
TRL, a subsidiary of the Transport Research Foundation, has launched research into headlight glare. Partnering with the Department for Transport (DfT), TRL will study the causes of glare from oncoming headlights, especially at night.
From October 2024 to Spring 2025, a car equipped with light-measuring instruments will assess factors like nearby vehicles, weather, and ambient lighting. The project will also include a literature review and stakeholder consultations to develop actionable recommendations for the DfT.
A recent RAC survey found 89% of drivers think some headlights are too bright, with 91% experiencing glare!
